    Just a tip on Ford Lightning...tiny 12v lead acid battery gets totally whipped by the IPMA update. You will need at least 30-40 amp charger to keep the battery charged enough and power supplied to finish the update. If you cannot find a charger that large, you can hook up two 15a or 20a chargers, in series, to the charging posts

      The mongoose activation or FDRS? I’ve heard of people getting a used/refurbished mongoose that says it’s already been registered, which should affect actual use. On FDRS the servers occasionally go down and if you contact the customer service they’ll apparently extend your license. I’ve had this happen a couple times and unfortunately the only recourse is to wait for Ford to fix their tech (usually in a few hours) and try again.

    I recently saw a review about NMC battery type. Basically, once it hits the 80% level after 500 cycles, the NMC battery is essentially dead. Like you, I was under impression you get another 500 cycles. However, you don’t get another 500 cycles to reach a new 80% level. If I recall correctly, you will maybe get another 50 cycles before battery is completely dead. Review included a graph that showed the 80% mark was on a very steep drop off of battery output. Anyway, just wanted to share. Thanks for your videos!

    Why do the fans have to run when in pass thru mode - both the charger and inverter is not running only the switching and electronics. What's confusing is the air is hot so the batt and inverter must be running .Thanks great video

    • @TheBigHeavy
      @TheBigHeavy Месяц назад

      I believe the inverter is still running, since the AC isn't really "passing through," it's actually just charging the battery and the inverter is pulling from the battery, but as long as the net current from the wall is more than you're output the battery will charge a bit while keeping your device running.

    • @LowOnCash
      @LowOnCash Месяц назад

      Just got by Delta yesterday it makes no sense to run the inverter with losses and tax the battery when the output you need is tight there in the unit. A typical inverter like an Xantrex simply directs the shore power right thru the unit. I'll tell you another EF secret my wave 2 plugged into 120 v wih the battery connected does not use a power converter to run. When plugged into the battery and 120 volts, The Wave starts on the battery and runs until the battery gets to 98 % then the re-chargers it back to 100% to start the cycle all over again. The Wave 2 will not run on its 120 v when the battery is connected. The only way it will is when you disconnect the battery. Regards - Mike

    Great tips. You might want to check out a surge protector (rated for at least 2000 Joules) to protect your equipment (I use the APC Performance SurgeArrest 8 Plug 3 m (PMF83VT-GR)). I've got two, one for my PC, and one for my home router. For cable management, velcro ties are excellent. Not sure how you switch keyboards when switching from your work computer to your private one, but I use a KVM switch to do that (specifically, the Delock 11485 model). When I turn off the company PC and turn on the private one, I push a button on the switch, and I can use everything (keyboard, mouse, monitors, USB hub) on the private PC (and the other way around as well). BUT, I can't use the peripherals on both PCs at the same time! Only one at a time. If I switch while both are turned on, the windows get rearranged to fit only the built-in screen on the previous laptop. Just make sure to buy a powered USB hub (the KVM switch also needs a power source, which is the USB hub in my case). The USB hub I use is the TP-Link UH700. I also use a Kensington gel pad as my mouse pad (I see your keyboard already has one). It's also highly important to have ergonomic posture, and to have a lamp turned on at all times (except if the Sun is shining into the room and it's already bright). You hurt your eyes if you don't (sadly, I know from experience, although it was thankfully just some temporary pain). These are all of my tips off the top of my head. Thanks for sharing the video.

    • @TheBigHeavy
      @TheBigHeavy Месяц назад

      Thanks for the tips! We have a whole house surge protector installed at the breaker panel. It’s a nice option if you’re updating your electrical or doing work at the panel. On the KVM, I hit a button on the monitor (or you can use a keyboard shortcut if you install some Dell software) and all the inputs switch over. When I have a different PC plugged into each monitor, there’s a switch on the keyboard that toggles mouse/keyboard assuming you plug a Logitech “dongle” (or have Bluetooth setup) on each computer.

    • @alittax
      @alittax Месяц назад

      @@TheBigHeavy Thanks for the response! Yes, your setup is excellent. The one comment I have is about the surge protector: if I'm not mistaken, the ones at the breaker panel only protect from surges originating outside the house, but not from ones that are caused by your own appliances from within the house. Against those, you need the kind that I've referred to.

    Hi, thanks for sharing your video. I have an Iceco vl45 pro and I love it. Plan on getting a Jackery and would you recommend the 1000 like you have and how long it last without solar?

    • @TheBigHeavy
      @TheBigHeavy Месяц назад

      I'd probably lean towards an Ecoflow these days. They have more outputs, and a mobile app that's actually useful. Depending on a variety of factors (ambient temp, how much stuff you have in the Iceco, how often you open it, etc.) you're probably good for 36-60 hours or a Friday night-Sunday morning camping trip without solar. The nice thing about the Ecoflow is you can also add another battery pack. Check the channel page as I brought this setup on a camping trip.

    Generating shade is an option. There are many videos showing how to achieve this. There also an instruction on how to build a simple platform with a timed mechanism, flow or intermittent, that allows your panels to track the sunlight.

    • @TheBigHeavy
      @TheBigHeavy Месяц назад

      I've seen the platforms (Ecoflow makes a commercial one I believe) but eventually you get to a point where you're spending more time babysitting your solar setup than you are enjoying the outdoors. I have seen manufacturers drop the "Solar Generator" terminology, which I think is a move in the right direction. I don't want people to pay fairly significant money for one of these things with the expectation it magically charges to full every day without accounting for things like shade, sun movement, etc.

      Glad you liked the video! I've given up on worrying about "bad" foods since during my 40-odd years on Earth the health "authorities" have told me that margarine was healthy, then it was going to kill me, skim milk was wonderful, then it was going to kill me, fat was deadly (but you could rock a 5-lb bag of sugar without worry since it was "fat free"), and in the 80's eating 6+ servings of pasta each day was the model of healthy eating. I try to eat stuff that doesn't come from a bag, and do an unreasonable amount of running to keep the ticker ticking until it's my time.

    Be careful about using random power cords with the Delta 2-not all of them can handle 1,800 watts without overheating and potentially starting a fire.

    • @TheBigHeavy
      @TheBigHeavy Месяц назад

      Correct. Look for the thick ones (or put on your glasses if you're me and see if you can read the tiny print on the cord) or you can limit the charging draw of the unit via the app. I generally keep the charging draw limited unless I need a fast charge to limit heat, prevent tripped breakers, and since I assume it's a bit easier on the Delta to not be running at max charge power.

    "You've got two separate adapters going into your device and you're probably in for $400 - $500 of adapters." That's me! Also, it doesn't work. Edit: it does work! I had a bad X-Stream adapter.

      What doesn't work? I've not had any problems, although the OpenEVSE is the only charging station I've used although it has worked with the two versions we have at the house.

      @@TheBigHeavy Running the Tesla Universal Wall Connector that has the Tesla factory NACS -> J1772 adapter. Plugging that into my Delta Pro via the X-Stream into the Infinity Port, the Infinity Port blue LED on the Delta Pro lights up for maybe 15 seconds, then goes out. The Tesla Wall Connector shows a single green "standby" indicator light. Tesla app shows no device connected. Tinkered with the Tesla app to put into compatibility mode but no real change there. I also have a "SEGUMA" brand NACS -> J1772 adapter I tried and the Tesla Wall Connector then shown a blue "communication" light, but never charged. I have another Delta Pro and another X-Stream power adapter I can try with next week. The ones I was testing with now were super early bird from the initial release and running slightly older firmware (v3.0.2.21). v3.0.2.21 supports an open port that you can query for device data remotely - that functionality appears removed in v3.0.2.25 (and likely later).

      Glad it was helpful! I just got back from another one-night trip and this is a great bag for that use case. About the only thing I don't like is that there's no obvious water bottle storage on the bag, and the "add on" they sell doesn't work if you add the extra grab handle.
